Belfast (Kenneth Branagh – 2021) B+

It’s not easy to find good child actors. The lad playing young Buddy (Jude Hill) is one of the good ones. He carries the ups and downs and heavy and light heartedness of Belfast brilliantly. It’s a time capsule of a specific time period during The Troubles. That time was large and looming over those who were impacted by it, but in Belfast, Branagh draws on his personal history and tells a story mostly set on a small street in Belfast. It’s about Buddy, his friends, his parents, grandparents and the tough decisions that had to be made. I enjoyed it very much.
