Last Year at Marienbad (Alan Resnais – 1961) B+

It’s a beautifully made crisp haunting black and white dream. Did I love it? Not really I don’t think, but I really enjoyed watching it, seeing these halls of a big Chateaux, hearing the slow monotone narration, watching these attractive actors exchange brief conversations, looks and share walks in the manicured garden as I am trying to decipher what is actually going on. I think it’s a story and memory and dream of a love affair, possibly murder, and maybe it’s nothing more than one persons projection as to what could have happened after meeting the pretty woman at Marienbad, or some other place…
