I love me a good slow movie. For most of its running time as it slowly eases to the conclusion it was not clear what exactly is the film about! To be more precise it was about a lot of stuff; manhood, the end of the wild west, toxic masculinity, coming of age, sexual identity, philosophy, being out of place, and all filmed and acted beautifully. The plot though was all made clear in the last 10 minutes or so. I watched it again and yes, Campion subtly lays it all there if you pay attention. This is definitely one of my favorite 2021 films.
