Mister Foe (David Mackenzie – 2007) B+

Hallam deals with his mom’s apparent suicide in a very peculiar way. He becomes an very proficient peeping Tom. Oh and he strongly believes that his pretty step-mom actually killed his mom to be with his rich architect dad. That’s the premise the film sets up until an interesting encounter with said step-mom propels him to the city. There he runs into a lady that looks like his dead mom, he gets himself employed as a dishwasher at the hotel where she works and starts watching her…Now, it’s a fine movie but I felt a bit confused with the odd tone. It oscillates a lot between a farce and dead-serious drama. Between the two tones we also get a coming of age story. It’s a bit jumbled but the acting is good and the characters are interesting enough.
