This movie uses the formula of “monsters attacking a group of people holed up somewhere” (in this case a small supermarket in Stephen King’s favorite locale- a town in Maine) to tell a story of how people behave if there were no rules. If there is no society and we are left to our own devices, what would we do? Kill each other? or bond? Maybe start a religion? Maybe a little bit of everything? It then followes the story to its inevitable, logical and harrowing conclusion. If you avoided this film based on the stupid trailer when it came out, go and watch it. It is not great, but it so much better than that trailer suggests.
