Brothers (Jim sheridan – 2009) B+

It’s odd how one scene or line of dialogue in a film can almost derail and ruin the whole thing sometimes. In this case it’s a scene toward the end of the movie where Isabelle, a character of about 6 or 7, blurts out a few lines that completely do not fit her age group and her level of maturity. Why on earth did the film makers think that was a good idea? To me that felt forced and so contrived. Up until that point Borthers is a fantastic, sad and gripping movie with excellent performances. I am now wondering if the original Danish version of the film has that same flaw in it.
