A simple no frills documentary that is much more an ode to Jim Morrison as opposed to the Doors. I learned a few new things from this doc about one of my favorite bands from the 60s, but the film’s strength is in how sweet it is. Odd, I know, but it is. It shows Morrison at his best and his most vulnerable, but never sensationalizes his many issues. It does not make him a hero or a victim. He is a big talent. He is mysterious and fascinating. Above all, he was very much loved by his band members. Probably way more than he ever realised. Johnny Depp’s narration is almost poetic. I also enjoyed the non-doc portions featuring a Jim look-alike who seems to be wandering across America on the day he died….
