Kick-Ass (Mathew Vaughn – 2010 ) B

This one is a doozy. It’s well made and certainly not a boring take on the superhero genre, but it is a bit unsettling with “Hit-Girl” in the picture. She’s supposed to be something like 12 but she murders with no remorse due to the thorough brainwashing her disturbing dad did on her (that would be Nick Cage as Big Daddy!). So when the final scene comes along and she gets seriously beaten up by a middle-aged mobster…it was a bit unsettling. Problem is, Chloe Moretz who plays “Hit-Girl” delivers probably the best performance in the flick. Another problem: McLovin (aka Christopher Mintz-Plasse) playing the character of “Red Mist”. The guy cannot act and has what might be the most annoying voice in Hollywood right up there with Joey Lauren Adams. That worked ok in Superbad and Role Models where he played essentially the same character, but it’s just grating now.
