Broken Embraces (Pedro Almodovar – 2009) B+

A very good drama involving a blind film director, his past love affairs and tragedy. There is something about all of Almodovar’s films that attract me to them. Sometimes it’s easy to pinpoint, but not this time. It could be just the look of the film and the vivid color palette. It could be how well he manipulates a straight-forward love story to make it a bit of a mystery and to make us care. It’s possibly the way he weaves in elements of film-making to elevate this drama and make it unique. I don’t know what it is really, I just know I enjoyed it very much. Now, why does a blind man look through the door peep-hole when someone knocks?
