Volver (Pedro Almodovar – 2006) A

A ‘ghost’, a small windy Spanish town, incest, murder and body disposal -in scenes that Hitchcock would film- and a bunch of women . Seems like a recipe for a horror movie, instead we get this wonderful, emotional, sometimes funny and lighthearted film. We also get some great shots like the opening scene of the women cleaning up and dusting their husbands graves, just another day’s chore! Or the great shot from above of Raimunda (Cruz) washing the dishes (you have to see it to know what I mean). It is also great to see Penelope Cruz in a role that she is perfect to play, in her language and her culture. It does not hurt one bit that she looks very hot playing it too.
